A systemic constellation is a way to work when you feel stuck, or, despite your best efforts, patterns repeat. It can be invaluable for working with conflict too.
In essence a constellation is a map of the key elements in an issue. This reveals the hidden dynamics of the system, whether organisational, community or family, and can generate the desired shift.
The elements we jointly identify are represented in a range of ways. In a 1:1 coaching session we might use objects on a tabletop, or work with felt squares laid on the floor to represent the elements.
Working online, whether with individuals or teams, using drawing tools has proved very effective. In a facilitated group setting, participants are invited to represent the elements of an issue-holders system.
Whatever the approach, the aim is to find movement towards a resolution of the coachee’s issue.
The power of this work, the holding of the group and the sensitivity of the approach was breath-taking.
The short video of Milly Sinclair and I in conversation with each other about Stroud Systemic Partnerships explains more, and the podcast with Jane James, is also useful to listen to.
